UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- New York Islanders goalie Rick DiPietro will have surgery to repair a sports hernia, likely sidelining the oft-injured player for most of the rest of the season.

There must be a chance that DiPietro can at least backup Evgeni Nabokov over the next three game. The former 1st overall pick has been limited to eight appearances this season.

DiPi last played on December 3rd but won his last start. In fact, the former 1st overall pick only lost two of his eight appearances despite a below average 3.73 GAA.
DiPietro was injured in Saturday night's game and is expected to miss a significant amount of time with his most recent ailment. Drop him if you own him for any reason.
DiPietro's health was already questionable as Al Montoya has been getting the bulk of the team's starts. Expect the Isles to make a corresponding roster move and for DiPi to remain sidelined for a spell.
