Volchenkov also didn’t practice Monday after he was struck in the mouth with a shot in the first period Sunday (He played the last two periods anyway).
Volchenkov probably plays tonight. He scored a goal and eight points in 51 games.
Defenseman Anton Volchenkov is riding the stationary bicycle. Devils GM Lou Lamoriello said Volchenkov wanted to practice, but they decided to hold him out for the day after he was hit in the mouth with a shot Sunday night.
The Devils are being careful with their shot-blocking machine. However, expect Volchenkov to play tomorrow night against the Leafs.
To make room for Palmieri on the roster, the Devils placed defenseman Anton Volchenkov on injured reserve retroactive to his last game on Dec. 31 against Pittsburgh. Volchenkov would be eligible to come off IR and play in the Devils’ game Tuesday in Calgary.
A--Train has no fantasy hockey value with only five assists in 34 games.
Volchenkov also won't play tonight. Did not skate today. Lamoriello said they want him to rest his leg a little longer.
Volchenkov was at least expected to step back on the ice but was unable to do even that. A setback certainly is not out of the question. He registered five assists over 34 games.
“He’s getting treatment,” Devils coach Pete DeBoer said .“He’s better. We’ll see how he is tomorrow morning. I think there’s a chance he’ll skate (in the morning). With the strain he’s dealing with, it’s literally hour-to-hour, day-to-day. So we’ll see how he feels in the morning.”
Sounds like Volchenkov has been ruled out of tomorrow's game against the Bruins. A-Train has five assists in 34 games in his second, injury-plagued season with the Devils.
