Volchenkov was suspended for an elbow he dished out to Bruins forward Brad Marchand last night. It was a vicious elbow and Marchand left the game and did not return. He also won't play tonight. Volchenkov is also a repeat offender which didn't help his cause.

He could become the latest to be suspended after his Thursday morning phone hearing with NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shananan for throwing an elbow the night before. He appeared to lead with his elbow when hitting Brad Marchand in the head during the second period. The Boston Bruins winger grabbed his head and slowly dropped to the ice. Marchand had to be helped to the dressing room and the Bruins announced during the third period that he was not returning for the night. There was no update on his condition after the game. Volchenkov received a five-minute major and game misconduct.
Volchenkov also didn’t practice Monday after he was struck in the mouth with a shot in the first period Sunday (He played the last two periods anyway).
Volchenkov probably plays tonight. He scored a goal and eight points in 51 games.
Defenseman Anton Volchenkov is riding the stationary bicycle. Devils GM Lou Lamoriello said Volchenkov wanted to practice, but they decided to hold him out for the day after he was hit in the mouth with a shot Sunday night.
The Devils are being careful with their shot-blocking machine. However, expect Volchenkov to play tomorrow night against the Leafs.
To make room for Palmieri on the roster, the Devils placed defenseman Anton Volchenkov on injured reserve retroactive to his last game on Dec. 31 against Pittsburgh. Volchenkov would be eligible to come off IR and play in the Devils’ game Tuesday in Calgary.
