Elias returns from a bout with the flu. The former captain scored 13 goals and 29 points in 32 games and will replace Travis Zajac on the second line.

Devils coach Pete DeBoer said center Patrik Elias (flu) and defenseman Henrik Tallinder (back spasms) are both feeling better, but he doesn’t know yet whether either will be available for Friday’s game against Washington.
Elias is just sick and should only miss one more game at most. The former captain scored 13 goals and 29 points in 32 games and will be replaced by Travis Zajac.

A Devils’ spokesperson said Elias is ill today. No word yet on his availability for Tuesday’s game vs. the Rangers (the first meeting of the season between the Hudson River rivals).
Extra forward Tim Sestito filled in for Elias on the second line so this could just be a rest day for the Devils all-time leading scorer.

Elias went down in the right corner and appeared to have trouble getting up or putting weight on his leg.
Elias shortly returned to the ice following his injury. He should be OK after the initial scare.

Patrik Elias said he felt fine today after sitting out Tuesday’s practice to rest his lower body.
At age 35 Elias will need to take some maintenance time over the course of the season. Through his first two games he registered one assist. Expect sneaky fantasy hockey value from Ilya Kovalchuk's pivot.
