Josi probable for Monday: Trotz said that defenseman Roman Josi (“upper body”) likely won’t meet the team in Southern California, but was hopeful for a return to action early next week.
Josi remains out of the lineup for tonight's game. The rookie has four goals and 15 points in his first 47 NHL games.
Though Coach Barry Trotz did not say whether defenseman Roman Josi would play, the rookie call-up was one of the earlier players off the ice this morning.
Jose scored a goal and four points in five games with the Milwaukee Admirals. He should play on the third pairing.
It sounds like defenseman Roman Josi will start the season in Milwaukee. Josi did not skate with the team again as he nursed his “upper body” injury. But a move to Milwaukee would most likely only be temporary. “In the past we’ve had players gotten injured like Roman has, and gone down, got their game going and they were fine,” Trotz said.
Josi was expected to challenge for a roster spot this preseason but could start the year in the AHL. Ryan Ellis and Mattias Ekholm certainly have a leg-up on him as long as he remains on the shelf.

Said Trotz, “Whenever he gets back we’ll put him back in the mix, but if he’s out another week, his chances of being part of the group get less and less every day he’s out.”
We expected Josi to make the team out of camp but the job could now go to another talented Nashville defender like Ryan Ellis.
Add defenseman Roman Josi to Nashville’s list of walking-wounded. Josi sat out practice Sunday with what Trotz called an upper-body injury. He was not on Nashville’s roster for today’s exhibition games against Florida.
