The Kings have recalled Kyle Clifford from Ontario (AHL).
Clifford has been sidelined since December 6th, but played two games with Ontario during the All-Star break. He failed to record a point, but returns to the Kings where he has three assist in 26 games.
Clifford had successful wrist surgery and is expected to miss six to eight weeks.
Clifford had three goals and five assists (eight points) in 71 regular season games and seven points (1G / 6A) in 24 playoff games. At this point , it is unclear when Clifford sustained the injury, but he will be ready for the 2014-15 season.
Kyle Clifford will not be suspended for his hit last night on Phoenix’s Gilbert Brule. Clifford, per the instructions of Darryl Sutter, declined to comment on the hit or whether he spoke with any league officials about supplemental discipline.
Expect Clifford to play tonight. The youngster has four goals and 10 points with 97 PIM in 60 games.
I think the line that I had together from the beginning of the training camp, with Clifford and Stoll, I was hoping that something good could happen by the end of the camp and that I would see a line that would be playing against the top lines of the opposition. But that might be pushing Cliffy a little bit too fast right now.
Clifford should start the season on the fourth line with the potential to move up in line. In his rookie season he scored seven goals and 14 points rotating between the third and fourth line. Sounds like the former 2nd rounder is experiencing some growing pains; could be in for a sophomore slump.
