The Blue Jackets have traded R.J Umberger and a fourth-round pick to the Flyers for Scott Hartnell.
Umberger, 32, scored 18 goals with 16 assists (32 points) in 74 games with the Blue Jackets this season. The Pennsylvania native is heading home to play for a Flyers team that he played three season with from 2005-08. Umberger's fantasy value would spike if he replaces Hartnell on the Flyers top-line with Claude Giroux.
Umberger played through a broken finger, separated shoulder and herniated disc in the first round vs. the Penguins.
Umberger missed two games in the first round, including game 6 in which the Blue Jackets were eliminated. Columbus showed some promise this season and Umberger will continue to be a part of their growth as he is signed through the 2016-17 season.
Umberger (upper-body) will miss a couple of weeks.
Umberger has recently been serving as a healthy scratch, so this is not that big of a loss to the Blue Jackets playoff push. WIth Umberger out expect Matt Frattin and Corey Tropp to battle it out for playing time.
Umberger has had a tough go of it recently. He was a healthy scratch for two games last week and then saw his minutes drop in each of the last three games, to the point where he is back to a healthy scratch.
Umberger was a healthy scratch in each of the last two games, but will return tonight on Long Island. Umberger has 18 goals and 15 assists in 68 games this season. Umberger is looking to record his sixth 20-goal season in nine years.
