NASHVILLE, Tenn. (January 19, 2012) – Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club claimed forward Brandon Yip on waivers from the Colorado Avalanche and activated forward Jerred Smithson from injured reserve.
Yip is a hard-working forward who should play well under Barry Trotz. He registered no points in 10 games with the Avs.

Yip gets a crack at the top line. The former collegiate standout scored 23 goals over the past two seasons and could potentially fill the net with his new line. Wait and see if he starts to produce before adding him.
Yip will make his season debut for the Avalanche tonight against the Wild.
Yip will draw in tonight but where is unclear. The former collegiate standout scored 12 goals last season indicating he may have some fantasy hockey value in deeper leagues.
Another player who won't be in the lineup tonight is Avs forward Brandon Yip. While he practiced with the team, Sacco said Yip needs a couple more days of conditioning. Yip might return Thursday in Minnesota.

Right wing Brandon Yip (fractured forearm) skated at practice Saturday, but in a noncontact jersey. He could return in one to two weeks
Towards the later portion of last season Yip found himself a healthy scratch. It will be interesting to see where coach Sacco uses the former collegiate standout.
The club also placed three players on Injured Reserve, defenseman Kyle Cumiskey (groin), forward Mark Olver (head) and forward Brandon Yip (arm).
Yip's injury helps clear up the team's depth chart. Last season he scored 12 goals and 22 points but disappointed in a scoring role. Expect him to compete for his roster spot when he returns.
