The Avalanche inked Tyson Barrie to a four-year $22 million extension ($5.5M AAV).
Coming off of a career-high 53 points in 2014-15, Barrie approached 50 points again in 2015-16, registering 49 points (13G / 36A) in 78 games. His 49 points were good for 11th among defensemen. Barrie will be among the top-15 fantasy defensemen again in 2016-17.
Barrie returns to the Avalanche lineup after serving his three-game suspension.
Barrie missed the last three games because of a suspension, but he will be back in the lineup tonight in Florida. Barrie had two assists in four games before his suspension and should be reinserted into your fantasy lineup tonight.
The NHL has suspended Tyson Barrie for three games for his hit on Simon Despres on Friday.
The NHL suspended Barrie for charging and interference on Despres, who was injured on the play. Barrie is a first time offender so it was surprising to see him get three games. With Barrie out, look for Brad Stuart to get back into the lineup on Sunday.
Barrie will not play tonight vs. the Red Wings, but coach Patrick Roy said he expects to have Barrie back for Saturday’s game in Minnesota. With Barrie out, Stefan Elliott will slide into the lineup and replace Barrie in all situations, including the top-pair and power-play.
Barrie will play on the wing with Max Talbot and Cody McLeod again Friday.
Barrie played 19:03 with one assist, two shots and a plus-1 rating in Wednesday's game. With the injury to John Mitchell it allowed Patrick Roy to move his offensive defenseman up to the third line. Barrie has two goals and six assists in his last 12 games.
The Avalanche have recalled Tyson Barrie from Lake Erie (AHL).
Barrie was recalled because Ryan Wilson (back) was placed on injured reserve, retroactive to November 6. Barrie had three points (all assists) in five games with Lake Erie after being sent down earlier this month.

Patrick Roy was not impressed with Barrie's start to the season and had him as a healthy scratch for eight of the Avs' last nine games. He will head to Lake Erie (AHL) where he will likely see a ton of ice-time which will help him develop a lot better than sitting on a nightly basis.
