The Coyotes have signed Alex Goligoski to a five-year contract worth $27.375 million.
Arizona traded for Goligoski’s rights last Thursday with the hope they would be able to sign him before July 1st. Goligoski is coming off of a 37-point (5G / 32A) season in 82 games with the Dallas Stars. He has averaged 38.3 points per season in his last three years with Dallas.
The Coyotes have acquired the negotiating rights to Alex Goligoski from the Stars for a 2016 fifth round pick.
Goligoski is set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st, but the Coyotes have acquired his rights and plan to sign him before June ends. The 30-year-old blueliner had 37 points (5G / 32A) in 82 games with Dallas this season.
Goligoski did not practice on Wednesday because of a cut under his ear he suffered on Tuesday.
Goligoski was reportedly cut by a skate on Tuesday night and he is also dealing with an undisclosed "nagging" injury. The Stars are hopeful that Goligoski will be in the lineup on Friday in New Jersey.
Based on the Stars morning skate it appears that Goligoski will draw back into the lineup after being a healthy scratch on Thursday.
Dallas came out on the wrong end of the deal in 2011 when they sent James Neal and Matt Niskanen to Pittsburgh for Goligoski. He has really come out of the gate on a sour note posting no point and a minus-10 rating through eight contests. He will be paired with Jordie Benn this evening.
