Belanger is currently listed as day-to-day. The faceoff specialist was replaced by Ryan O'Marra at even strength and Josh Green on the power play. He has a goal and 10 points in 43 games.
The Oilers will lean on Belanger and Shawn Horcoff, who has been Edmonton’s go-to-man when he’s been in the lineup, this season.
Belanger should start the season while centering the third line. Last season he managed to score 13 goals and 40 points while playing on the team's top line. He should come near replicating those totals but will suffer in plus/minus. At this point, only consider Belanger if your team needs face-off wins.
The Oilers signed the two-way centre on Friday for $5.25 million over three years because he can be a dependable faceoff man, something the club sorely needs in their evolving lineup.
