The Rangers have traded Michael Del Zotto to the Predators in exchange for Kevin Klein.
The Rangers had been trying to move Del Zotto for awhile now, but finally pulled the trigger this afternoon. Del Zotto carries a $2.55 million US cap hit but is a pending restricted free agent at the end of the season. Del Zotto has regressed since his 2011-12 season when we saw him total 41 points (10G / 31A) in 77 games. He has developed some bad habits in his own end of the rink which the Predators will attempt to fix. He has 11 points (2G / 9A) with a minus-5 rating in 42 games this season.
Del Zotto was a healthy scratch for the last three games but will rejoin the lineup tonight. The 23-year-old former 20th overall pick (2008) has had a disappointing start to the season after scoring 41 points in 2011-12 and was on pace for 36 over an 82 game season last year. He has been the talk of potential trades, but for now he is still a Ranger and will look to stay in the lineup with a strong game tonight.
Del Zotto has seen his minutes shrink in the recent contests. He usually plays close to 20 minutes but has averaged just 15:52 TOI in his last four games. The 23-year-old has struggled with only one goal and three assists in 16 games. Justin Falk enters the lineup in his place.
Michael Del Zotto appeared to hurt his hip or leg being checked into the boards by the Senators Marc Methot in the third period Thursday night. Del Zotto did not return to the game and, after a short stretch being attended to on the bench, went to the dressing room.
The Rangers said they will evaluate Del Zotto Saturday morning.
